English Premier League side Manchester United are nearing on a €15 million signing of Daniel James, a 21 year old wonderkid plying his trade in the Championship side Swansea City in England’s second tier league.
The star winger, with 12 months left in his Swansea City contract, has been in spectacular form this season, netting 11 goals in 33 league appearances. The Welshman has also starred in the Wales National team, scoring 1 goal in 2 appearances. His debut goal for the National team came in a 1-0 victory over Slovakia back in March at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Daniel James is a common name in the Championship league, with many fans attributing him to former Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt owing to his outrageous pace on the pitch.
In an exclusive interview, he once told Telegraph about his pace being clocked to an overwhelming 36kph, almost identical to Arjen Robeen’s 37kph display in 2014.
One of his exciting performances was seen in an FA Cup tie against Brentford in February as he literally sprinted, channeling through the entire pitch to score an impressive goal. His skills and counter attacking abilities were also evident as Swansea City took on Premier League side Manchester City in an exciting FA Cup tie back in March.
It is without a doubt that the young winger deserves a move to Manchester United as the latter looks forward to agree on a cut price transfer away from the Championship side.
In an interesting turn of events, Daniel James’ €8.5 million move to Leeds in the summer failed to materialise as his deal collapsed on deadline day as he was left stranded in Yorkshire following a medical in his ‘new’ club.
With the big question being whether the 21 year old winger will be good enough to feature in an elite Premier League side, his manager, Graham Potter, has reiterated that Daniel has clearly outgrown the Championship side and that he could easily walk into any Premier League top six club, owing to impressive display against fellow countryman Gareth Bale and Manchester City’s right back, Kyle Walker.
With many fans comparing him to Paris Saint Germain’s star Kylian Mbappe and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, the Welshman has also attracted the praises of Wales Coach, Ryan Giggs, who believes that his goal threats and movements could make him one of the football greats.
Asked about signing Daniel James, Manchester United tactician Ole Gunnar Solskjær said, “ I want to sign young players who can last here for many years, as Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney did.” “Ronaldo was never ready made, Wayne was never ready made. Loads of the players that come here and are really developed into the top stars they they have become.”

For now, there are other clubs chasing the Welshman’s signature and all eyes are on Manchester United to finalise the trade talks and maybe acquire their first off-season signings.
