FC Barcelona’s lead striker Luis Suarez is set to undergo a knee surgery following a medial meniscus injury in his right knee.
This comes after the 32 year old striker had to undergo a stem cell treatment on the same knee earlier this season.
The injury comes on the backdrop of a humiliating 4-0 thumping to Liverpool FC at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League semifinals 2nd leg.
In an official communication the club stated, “ The first team player Luis Suarez has a medial meniscus injury in his right knee and surgeon Dr Cugat will perform arthroscopic surgery on the Uruguayan under the supervision of the club’s medical staff.”
However, the club remained adamant to state his return date but the injury is expected to take around 6 weeks.
This means that the top striker will miss the last 2 legs for FC Barcelona in the Spanish La Liga against Getafe and Eibar even though the Catalan side have already clinched the domestic title.
The Uruguayan is also set to miss the Copa Del Rey final matchup against Valencia on May 25 as his team looks forward to clinch a domestic double triumph.
Luis Suarez has been in top form during this La Liga’s season, scoring 25 goals in 49 appearances.
The club is set to give the outcome of the entire process and the recovery period following the surgery.
